Disability Awareness Workshop Recap

Dear Logan Community,

On behalf of Chris and myself, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make this year’s Disability Awareness Workshop a success. We are truly grateful for the incredible support from our teachers, staff, parents, and administration. Whether you donated food or water, sat in on a session, or helped out with the kiddos, your time and energy made all the difference.

Each year, this workshop provides our 4th graders with an unforgettable opportunity to learn about vulnerability, resilience, kindness, and empathy. The lessons they take away go far beyond the classroom, they shape how our students view and interact with the world. It’s a powerful experience that stays with them as they grow, and we feel honored to help facilitate that learning.

As we reflect on this year’s success, we’re also looking ahead. We would love for even more of our Logan Leopards to be part of the planning and execution of next year’s event. Disability Awareness Day is an incredibly meaningful learning experience, and it takes a village to make it happen. If you’re interested in joining the efforts next year, we welcome your ideas and involvement, starting early makes all the difference. Please feel free to send feedback to cfick1976@gmail.com

Thank you again for being part of something so impactful. We’re proud to be part of a community that values compassion, inclusion, and lifelong learning.

With gratitude, Carrie & Chris Fick

Thank You for Supporting Logan PTSO Service Day

Thank you so much to all the families who donated time and supplies to make our Logan Service Day 2025 such a success! If you would like to have your pictures from the event included in the yearbook please upload HERE.

Thanks to everyone’s contributions, we have been able to provide significant support to two local nonprofits:

Ronald McDonald House (RMHC), Ann Arbor and House N2 Home

Leslie Science & Nature Center - Live Animal Visit at Logan

Back on Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 14 & 15, Leslie Science & Nature Center visited Logan! Each class experienced an individual presentation with Leslie staff and learned about cold-blooded animals, including a turtle, lizard, and snake. By meeting live reptiles, students explored the adaptations that make them successful and how scientists compare and contrast these particular cold-blooded creatures. Students enjoyed meeting these reptiles up close, asked insightful questions, and were great participants!

Logan PTSO Service Day: Monday, Jan. 20

We invite the Logan community to join the PTSO on Monday, Jan. 20, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. for our 2nd Annual Day of Service in our Logan Multipurpose Room. To honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, we will be doing service projects as a community and supporting two local nonprofits:

Ronald McDonald House (RMHC), Ann Arbor:

Many of us know RMHC Ann Arbor for helping keep families close when a child is hospitalized but they also provide inclusive, supportive programs and services that improve the health and well-being of children and their families, including housing, meals and family support services so families can stay together when they need to the most.

Our Service Activity: Creating Fleece Tie Blankets that will be provided to children as an item to cuddle in Welcome Kits at the RMCH and at Motts Children’s Hospital.

Sign-up: Please sign-up HERE so we know how many families to expect. The fleece was generously donated; families just need to show up to make the blankets. All students need to be accompanied by an adult to participate. Siblings are welcome.

House N2 Home:

We will also support House N2 Home which furnishes homes for people coming out of homelessness. Serving young and old; from newborns to seniors and veterans, individuals and families ranging from 2-12 people across Washtenaw County. In 2024, 424 homes for 879 people were furnished, 436 of those were children, 60 were veterans!

Our Service Activity: Packing Welcome Kits that will be provided for new home move-ins.

Needed: We are asking families to drop off wish list items in the box across from the office for the kits to furnish a new home, including dish towels, toilet paper, Kleenex, measuring spoons, hand soap, paper towels and door mats. Items can also be brought to the Service Day on Jan 20.

Sign-up: In addition to donating goods to support, HN2H is able to welcome 12 4th and 5th grade students and their parents to drop off the kits, receive a tour of their facilities and discuss how they support the community at 1 pm on January 20th. Due to space and age restrictions at the facility, only 4th and 5th graders and their parents are allowed to attend. Please sign up at the link for this unique opportunity. Thank you!!

HOLIDAY GIVING: Dec. 2-6, we’ll be collecting items to support local families in need. If you’re able, please consider supporting either or both:

  • Logan is partnering to help out families from AAPS Allen Elementary. We will be collecting items at our ice skating event on Dec. 6. Please use the Allen Wishlist link here to purchase items.
  • You can also help families at Logan who need a little extra help this season by purchasing items from the Amazon wishlist. Items can be dropped off to Logan or sent directly from Amazon. Please use the Logan link here to support.

FREE ICE SKATING: On Friday, Dec. 6 from 4:45-7 p.m., Logan families are invited for a night on the ice! The PTSO is providing FREE admission for ice skating, skate rental and a warm beverage from the Bear Claw truck!

  • We will have two on-ice times to choose from to help manage skating capacity: 5:00-5:45 p.m. or 6:15 – 7 p.m.
  • Skate rentals will be on site and given on a first come, first serve basis. The number of skates may be limited, so bring your own pair of skates if you have them. Buhr Park recommends bringing an extra pair of thick socks in case you need to go up a size in skates.

Girl Scouts K-5th Informational Meeting: November 6

Join the Academic Games Team!

Open to Logan + Thurston 3RD, 4TH, & 5TH GRADERS

Academic Games is a series of games designed to develop, challenge, and test a student's knowledge in several different subject areas beyond what is taught in school. Students compete in games that cover Math, English, Social Studies, & Logic. The primary purpose of Academic Games is to make learning fun for students - challenging them to pursue their own education in these subjects in order to succeed in competition.

Academic Games team members are encouraged to attend a minimum of one practice a week, but are welcome to attend as often as they wish. All teams compete against other schools from and throughout the state about once a month on Saturdays. A full schedule of this year’s tournament is on our website.

Our team meets for practice at Logan Elementary in Ms. Jackson’s classroom (Room 253) on Tuesdays 4:00 - 5:30 and Thursdays 6:30 - 8:00

The team is coached by volunteers and supported through the efforts of many parents who act as co-coaches, chaperones, and fundraisers. Tierra Jackson is the Head Coach for Logan's Team. We would like to encourage parents to attend any and all practices and tournaments to learn the games.
